Oirase Gorge and Lake Towada
(Towada City)
Lake Towada is a double caldera filling the bowl of a 400-m mountain
and straddling the Aomori-Akita border and displaying incredible year-round
beauty. Oirase Gorge is the only waterway out of Towada; the stream's
14 km from Nenokuchi shows many scenic faces and is fed by numerous striking
waterfalls. Enjoy the cycling and walking paths through spring’s
new green and fall’s brilliant foliage.

Lake Ogawarako (Misawa City, Tohoku Town,

The largest lake in Aomori is also the 11th largest nationwide.

Tanesashi Coast (Hachinohe City, Hashikami
Town)
Lush natural turf stretches right down to the craggy rocks lashed
with Pacific surf at Tanesashi. This coastal area stretches over
12 km from its northern terminus at Kabushima, famous as a breeding
ground for black-tailed gulls.

Juniko Lakes (Fukaura Town)
With a name meaning “Twelve Lakes,” you might be
expecting, well, twelve lakes. But be prepared for the pleasant
surprise of 33 lakes and ponds in the pristine setting of the
Shirakami Sanchi's beech forest. The mysteriously cobalt blue
Aoike and pure waters of Wakitsubo no Ike are accompanied by
recreational chances at Oike and Hakkei no Ike.

Senjojiki Coast (Fukaura Town)
A rock shelf spreads over 12 km, dotted with fantastic rocks
given such names as "helmet" and "lion" for their shapes.
In summer, Senjojiki is a magnet for swimmers and surf fishing enthusiasts.

Kurokuma no Taki Falls (Ajigasawa Town)
This enormous waterfall measures 85 meters in height and a full
15 meters across. Named to the list of Japan's 100 Best Waterfalls,
Kurokuma no Taki's waters are those of the Akaishigawa River,
which flows out from a source in the Shirakami Sanchi. With the
recent completion of a 1.8-km path, you can now easily enjoy two
more previously inaccessible falls.

Hotokegaura Coastline (Sai Vil.)
An extraordinary coastal landscape of soaring cliffs and pillars
stretches nearly 2 km. Much as the constellations were named
for heroes and gods, many of these rocks are named for entities from the
Buddhist pantheon
and tradition. Take the boat ride and gaze up from the sea for
a new perspective.

Anmon no Taki Falls (Nishimeya Vil.)
A group of three connected falls set in the Shirakami Sanchi can
be reached via a nature path. A 35-min walk terminates at the
base of the 26-m high, lowest fall. From here, a 15-min climb
reaches the 37-m middle fall. The uppermost fall can be seen with
an additional 10-min walk.
