Fujisato Town - Mt. Komagatake
Opening and Hiking
After a long winter closed off due
to deep snows, Akita's famous Mt. Komagatake finally reopens in
May. Hikers flock to the mountain to enjoy the new green appearing
from amidst the remaining snows of Komagatake and the Shirakami
Sanchi.

aptly named festival.

Azalea Festival
2650 azaleas bloom in red, purple,
and white on the grounds of the Satake clan’s great castle.

Akita City - Annual Yatose Akita
Matsuri
The Yatose Akita Festival was begun
by students residing in Akita. Teams of dancers perform to original
arrangments of Akita's folk songs, in a unique, energetic, youthful
display.

Senboku City - Kakunodate Cherry Blossom Festival
Kakunodate offers two ways to take in the cherry
blossoms. Along two km of the Hinokinaigawa Riv stands a glorious
promenade of
Yoshino cherries. In the samurai
mansion area, weeping cherries of 300 and 400 years bloom in a quintessentially
Japanese understated and ephemeral beauty that is also a National Natural
Monument. There are also kiosks and carts, performances of local
folk arts, and lots
more events to enjoy.
