Hanamaki Festival (Hanamaki City)

Begun four centuries ago to honor Hanamaki's founding father, Kita Shosai, this energetic parade of floats and portable mikoshi shrines continues to be a great attraction and a great unifier, as the whole town comes out to make this event spectacular. During the festival, you can also enjoy local performing arts, including dances like Shishi Odori.

Morioka Hachimangu Fall Festival (Morioka City)

This festival traces its history back nearly three centuries, and its fabulous floats pulled by as many as 200 people and accompanied by rousing drums and calls bring Morioka's autumn to life.

Chusonji Chrysanthemum Festival (Hiraizumi Town)

Exquisite chrysanthemums fill Chusonji's temple grounds, pleasing visitors from near and far. The eighteenth year of this festival will feature the golden hall of Konjikido and a three-story pagoda made of chrysanthemums.

Fujiwara Fall Festival (Hiraizumi Town)

This fall festival pays tribute to the Fujiwara family who brought immeasurable wealth and glory to Hiraizumi in the twelfth century. The beauty of fall is accentuated with colorful parades and performing arts, and with Noh at Chusonji and the sacred dance, Ennen no Mai, at Motsuji.
