Lake Towada (Kosaka Town) Peak Season: mid - late Oct

Straddling the Akita-Aomori border, the yellow, red and gold tinged leaves of the beech, oak, and lacquer trees on the lake shore and outer rim are reflected in the lake surface like a splendidly colorful brocade.

Hachimantai (Kazuno City, Tazawako City) Peak Season: late Sep - mid Oct

This impressive spot is located in the mountain range between Akita and Iwate. Soak in the expansive Hachimantai Hot Spring area or explore the scenery, particularly the fall foliage, while walking along the Onuma and Goshogake nature research path.

Dakigaeri Gorge (Kakunodate Town, Tazawako Town) Peak Season: Mid-Oct – early Nov

The blue waters of the flowing Tamagawa River and the flame-like brilliance of the fall foliage make a beautiful contrast. On both sides there are sharp cliffs and impressive waterfalls. The beauty of the virgin cherry and maple forest complete this famous landmark for spring and fall foliage.

Nagakigawa Mountain Stream (Odate City) Peak Season: late Oct

Following the Jukai Line tourist road connecting Odate and Towadako, the banks of the beautiful mountain river are colored with fall foliage. Nearby one can enjoy the Yukizawa Hot Springs.

Lake Taiheiko (Moriyoshi Town) Peak Season: mid - late Oct

13 mountain rivers feed this 195 ha artificial lake created by the completion of the Moriyoshi dam. Viewed from the sightseeing boat, the lakesides fed by Mountain rivers feature an ever changing and beautiful contrast of fall foliage and the view of Mt. Moriyoshizan.

Kimimachizaka Park (Futatsui Town) Peak Season: mid - late Oct

The foliage on the towering rock in the park, glistening under the sun, is a sight not to be missed. The larch trees, the ivy, and the maple trees, together with the unique rock formations that dot the park, paint a picturesque scene as well.

Bukeyashiki Samurai Manors (Kakunodate Town) Peak Season: late Oct - early Nov

The foliage surrounding the majestic samurai residences paints a wonderfully Japanesque tableau. The maple trees in particular are impressive.

Fujisato Ravine Area (Fujisato Town) Peak Season : mid - late Oct

The foliage in both Dairakyo and Subarikyo Ravines is beautiful. Dairakyo, in particular, is an interesting valley with waterfalls of different sizes and unique rock formations.
